Traditionally, on 25 January, the Pyramid Culture and Entertainment Centre hosts the Student of the Year of the Republic of Tatarstan 2022 awards ceremony on Student Day. Every year the event brings together the most active, intelligent, tolerant, strong and versatile students.

This year the Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism was represented in seven nominations: Male Athlete of the Year, Student Sports Club of the Year, Student Self-Government Body of the Year, Dormitory Student Council of the Year, Creative Team of the Year, Community Player of the Year, Grand Prize. Out of 24 applications, 22 made it to the final round of the competition. However, only Natalya Turakalina, a third year student, reached the final and became the winner in the Athlete of the Year nomination.

At the end of the contest Natalia admitted that she had really worthy competitors. After the preliminary rounds, we guessed that Ilya and Dinara would be the nominees," said Natalia. - Ilya was good, his sports club took a special prize, and he became 'Athlete of the Year' himself. And at the lectures he showed serious knowledge of sports events. That's why I think he deserves this victory.

When asked about her first emotions after the announcement of the winners, Natalia said she was upset. "I'm waiting for the points to be discounted so I can really understand how much and where I fell short. But as my dad says: "The world loves a patient man". There are plans, there are goals, we will gradually bring them into reality," summed up the third-year student.

Meanwhile, Natalia noted that she hasn't changed her mind about applying for the award next year. "It's funny what happened with the plans. Before the event, I said that I would never participate again, because a lot of energy and nerves were spent. When I came off the stage I said the same thing", Natalia confessed. - But after a while I started to think about it and decided to apply again in a year, but for a different nomination. Which one? It's a secret for now, because it's just a thought, but definitely not 'Sportsman of the Year'.
