Today, President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov met with representatives of the rectorial corps and heads of scientific organisations.
The meeting was held at the RT Government House, attended by Deputy Prime Minister Leyla Fazleeva, Head of RT President's Administration Asgat Safarov and others.
Rustam Minnikhanov said that it has become a good tradition in the republic to meet with representatives of science before the New Year, sum up the results of the year 2022 and define new tasks. He underlined that, in spite of all difficulties, the scientific and educational complex of Tatarstan had performed decently in the passing year. Universities and research institutions were able not only to maintain but also to increase their presence in the national project "Science and Universities", as well as in other strategic initiatives for the socio-economic development of the country.
Our system of science and education allows Tatarstan to remain one of the most important scientific, educational and industrial centres of the country, said Rustam Minnikhanov. He reminded that Tatarstan was ranked 5th in the national rating for scientific and technological development of regions.
Lenar Safin, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions of the Republic of Tatarstan and Rector of Kazan Federal University, talked about the results of development of the system of higher education in Tatarstan and top-priority tasks for its modernization. In particular, he stressed that one of the main tasks today is to ensure more efficient integration of science and industry.
Lenar Safin spoke in more detail about the creation of four engineering schools in the republic on the basis of leading universities.
In addition, Tatarstan actively participates in the Priority 2030 programme that enables universities to receive grants for development: opening student technology parks, business incubators, upgrading scientific laboratory facilities. The Kazan Federal University Rector noted that the republic provides a great support for universities, but they must also compete for grants and take part in different programmes.
Director Aleksey Kalachev reported on the results of Kazan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences and priority development projects.
President of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan Myakzyum Salakhov reported on the results of the Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan and plans for the coming year (the Year of National Cultures and Traditions). He talked about cooperation with a number of countries, including Kyrgyzstan, Turkey, India, Uzbekistan and others in studying languages and traditions of different nations.
Rustam Minnikhanov reminded that there are only 4 regional academies of sciences in the country - in Tatarstan, Bashkortostan, Chechnya and Yakutia. The Academy of Sciences of Tatarstan enjoys well-deserved authority and makes a significant contribution to preserving the unique identity and cultural code as well as rich historical heritage of the multinational people of the republic, stressed the President of Tatarstan.
