On November 4, a historical event took place - the revival and presentation of the new squad of the Zilant handball club after a 15-year break.
The history of the birth of Kazan men's handball club "KAI-Zilant" dates back to 1993, when handball club "AViK" was established on the basis of Kazan Aviation Institute.
In 1999 the team was recognised as the most promising one in the Republic of Tatarstan, it scored many victories, and its players were candidates for youth and junior national teams of Russia.
However, due to depressing financial circumstances, the handball club KAI-Zilant was shut down in 2007.
And now, 15 years after its closure, the Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism, with support of the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan and Russian Handball Federation, was able to give the club a new start.
The solemn ceremony was attended by guests of honour: Khalil Shaikhutdinov, First Deputy Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan; Dmitry Bocharnikov, Sports Director of the Russian Handball Federation; Natalia Grechannikova, Pro-Rector for Administration, Social Development and Youth Policy of the Volga Region University; Georgy Popov, President of the Tatarstan Handball Federation; and Konstantin Gorbunov, Director of the Zilant Kazan Handball Club.
Handball veteran Vladimir Bylkin, one of the founders of men's handball in the Republic of Tatarstan, legendary coach and first mentor of many handball players of the Republic of Tatarstan who also stood by his side on the stage, addressed the young athletes with parting words.
It is worth noting that 7 students of Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism made up the men's handball team of the Higher League.
Today, on November 5th at 17:00 and on November 6th at 12:00 the first games of the renovated club "Zilant" will be played in the Premier League of Russian Handball Championship.
We are waiting for all handball fans and those who wish to support the newly formed team.
