A fourth-year student of the Institute of Sports of the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, as well as an athlete, Yulia Sokhatskaya, this year became a silver medalist in the all-around competition of the country's prestigious competitions - the Russian Championship and the All-Russian Sports Contest of the Strongest.
- Julia, congratulations on your 2nd place at the All-Russian Olympics. Are you satisfied with the result and place?
- Thanks for the compliments! In principle, yes, I am satisfied with my result, but I could have scored more points, there were still failed views.
- So you think that you have not fully realized yourself?
- You can always do better. Therefore, yes.
- The season was quite busy for you, you did four all-around events, and there is one more start ahead of you - the Russian Team Championships. Do you plan to compete there or will you rest anyway?
- Yes, I plan to compete. Now I'm going to try to maximize my recuperation for this race. I'm curious to see how my body reacts to it. It's my fifth all-around in a season - first time for me.
- You are already going to be an adult competitor and you compete more and more against older competitors. Is it hard to compete with them?
- Yes, yes, yes. I'll be competing in that age category next year. I think I won't feel any difference in the transition from youth to women. It is even good.
- The season is almost over. How do you estimate it?
- Probably 9 out of 10. I liked it, I got a lot of starts, and I improved my results with each one, I had some personal bests. That's why I'm satisfied.
- Do you keep an eye on the Russian competitions? Do you follow the results of foreign multiathletes and would you like to compete abroad more?
- Of course I would like to, but I don't.
- Have you lost faith because of the situation in the world?
- I don't know why I should get upset.
- I did it two years ago at the championships. At first it was unusual, but now I'm used to it. I know everybody, I communicate well with everyone, I like the atmosphere.
- Now you've changed places, the juniors under 20 are coming to a head.
- Do you at least look at the rankings from the corner of your eye?
- Sometimes, yes, sometimes I come across it on the Internet, or the coach says. But not to follow it. Until I was 20, in winter I was the fifth in the world ranking. (At the moment Julia is on the 100th place in the world ranking in the absolute age category).
- You spend a lot of time traveling to competitions and training camps. Does it interfere with your personal life and studies?
- It's already become a habit that I'm constantly away from home. My parents are used to it. When I'm at home for a long time, I want to go somewhere. It interferes with my studies, yes. You practice, you still have to give something to the teachers. But as it is, 99% of my friends are from sports, I have a good time when I'm away, too. I wouldn't say I'm missing out on my youth. On the contrary, I enjoy everything.
- So there's no stress from endless training, competitions, loads?
- Sometimes, of course, there is fatigue from all this. But you can get tired of any work: work at least as an engineer, even as a lawyer. This is fine.
- How do you rest? Do you have hobbies or hobbies?
- Recovery procedures at the training camp - bath, sauna, swimming in the sea. Books and serials help to unload the head. I like to embroider with a cross, beads. Once at the training camp I bought a set of beads, made rings, necklaces. I try to see my friends, because of training, this is extremely rare. I can go somewhere, dance.
- What are your plans for the nearest future?
- Now, by the end of the season, I can't set goals for myself. You must first “digest” everything, analyze it and then think further where to go.
