Alexander Zyuzin, head coach of the Russian national rowing team, gave an open lecture at the Volga Region University, which was attended by graduate students, master's students, postgraduates and teachers.
The lecture was devoted to the importance of statistical data in the organization of the training process and the analysis of the database, which collects information about the athletes of the national team.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Digital Transformation Adelia Pavlova noted that the lecture is important not only for students of sports analytics, but also for coaches, because competent data analysis allows to achieve high results.
- We take analytics seriously. I believe that without it, it is virtually impossible to predict results in high-performance sport. The data helps us analyze the training process and plan further training, including making a strategic plan for several years ahead. We can also predict the results of an athlete and the whole national team, to see how rowing is developing. Now we have information about 160 athletes, but the federation has a plan to collect data on 520 rowers - candidates for the national team, - said Alexander Zyuzin.
The head coach of the Russian national rowing team said that the database can be accessed by all interested athletes and coaches, who will be able to see all the stored information on training and control tests. He also noted that athletes used to take part in 17 starts per year, but now this number has increased to 60. Each start is controlled, model indicators and records in sports classes are collected.
- I believe that professionalism is a habit of order. When an athlete can go to high speed not once or twice, but a dozen times. This will guarantee that the athlete can consistently show high results and win medals. That is why every second of the training process is important, - emphasized Alexander Zyuzin.
