During matches, esports athletes experience physiological stress comparable to the physical demands found in traditional sports, according to researchers at the Volga Region University.
Athletes’ heart rates and breathing rates increase sharply, as the body mobilizes all its resources to tackle in-game challenges.
Since height and physical strength are not factors in esports, the university’s researchers have developed a program that uses heart rate data to determine a player’s ideal role in *Dota 2*.
This will enable coaches to assemble teams more effectively and with greater insight.
