Professor of the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, tennis player, coach, figure in Soviet and Russian sports Shamil Tarpishchev - an era in sports, head of the department of theory and methodology of volleyball and basketball Igor Konovalov - finalist in the nomination “For Service to Sports”. These are the results of the National Sports Awards 2023.

Today, November 30, in the year of the 100th anniversary of the formation of the state governing body in the field of physical culture and sports, the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation announced the names of the winners of the National Sports Award at the State Kremlin Palace.

Based on the results of all-Russian competitions of the Russian Ministry of Sports, 54 finalists were identified in 18 nominations. Among them are workers in the field of physical culture and sports who have contributed to the development of international sports relations and the industry as a whole.

In order to identify and support the organizers of the physical culture and sports movement, scientists, and public figures who have made a significant contribution to the development of physical culture and sports, the National Sports Award honored the best workers in the field of physical culture and sports in the category “For Service to Sports.”

The competitive selection took place among 12 candidates who sent their applications for participation in the award. These are scientists, teachers of educational and scientific organizations, developers of teaching materials, authors of unique methods and practices in the field of physical culture and sports.

When selecting candidates, the competition commission, consisting of representatives of all-Russian sports federations, research centers that promote the development of physical culture and sports in the country, paid attention to the experience of implementing scientific projects that have received wide practical application in the industry, as well as to scientific publications in Russian and foreign publications.

The head of the department of theory and methodology of volleyball and basketball at the Volga Region University of Sports, Igor Konovalov, as well as the head of the department of biochemistry and bioenergy of sports named after A. N.I. Volkova, head of the laboratory of the physiology of muscle activity and restoration of the Research Institute of Sports and Sports Medicine RUS "GTSOLIFK" Rita Tambovtseva and member of the Interdepartmental Commission on Adaptive Physical Culture of the Council under the President of the Russian Federation for Physical Culture and Sports, scientific director of the scientific and methodological center for the implementation of the All-Russian Sports Sports Complex GTO for disabled people and a methodological center on issues of comprehensive rehabilitation and rehabilitation of disabled people and disabled children in the field of physical culture and sports Sergey Evseev.

Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences Igor Konovalov has been in the profession for 33 years. He is the author of more than 830 scientific papers, 20 monographs, has four patents for inventions and more than 100 educational publications.

During his time at the university, he trained and graduated more than 1,000 specialists in the field of physical education and sports. Under his leadership, students became participants, prize-winners and winners of international competitions. 14 teams were organized and are functioning. Three teams compete in the Higher and First Leagues of Russian championships in handball, volleyball and basketball.

"Participation in the National Sports Award is an opportunity to present to the public the results of my and my colleagues' many years of professional activity. At the same time, it is a responsible and honourable mission to represent my university and my region at the main sporting event of the year. My colleagues and I continue a large active research work on modernisation of the educational process in the profile university and optimisation of the content of sports training in various sports for those involved at different stages of long-term training. As part of this work, we carry out publication (more than 20 articles in leading domestic and foreign journals, including patents for inventions and other intellectual property) and publishing activities (more than 10 educational and scientific publications), actively implement industry and not only grants", - says Igor Konovalov.

From 2019 to 2021 Igor Konovalov was an expert at the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan. Since 2022, he has been the head of the scientific school "Theoretical and methodological foundations and methodological and practical aspects of physical education and sport" at the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.
