The Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism is recognised as a basic organisation in the field of student sports in the CIS. This decision was taken today as part of the regular meeting of the Council for Physical Culture and Sport of the participants of the Agreement on Cooperation in the Field of Physical Culture and Sport of the Member States of the Commonwealth of Independent States in Minsk. The Russian delegation took part in the work of the meeting.
During the event, Rector of the Volga Region University of Sport Rafis Burganov spoke about the university's implementation of programmes in the field of student sports development and opportunities for further work in the Commonwealth.
Deputy Secretary General of the CIS Executive Committee Leonid Panfilov spoke about the development of co-operation in the field of sports between the CIS member states. As part of the implementation of the action plan, the CIS sports capitals have been announced - in 2023 this title will be held by the Belarusian Minsk, in 2024 it will go to the Armenian city of Gyumri.
"Our co-operation is only gaining momentum. We will provide any support to any endeavours and initiatives in the field of sports under the CIS patronage," Panfilov said.
Russian Deputy Sports Minister Alexei Morozov spoke about the implementation of the action plan by the Russian Federation.
"Humanitarian co-operation is one of the priority areas of interaction between the Commonwealth countries. We are always happy to welcome athletes from CIS countries at all competitions held in Russia in an open format. Under the patronage of the Commonwealth, you hold the International Festival of School Sports among CIS member states, the All-Russian sports competitions of schoolchildren "Presidential Competitions" and "Presidential Sports Games", the All-Russian Festival of national non-Olympic sports, as well as about twenty scientific-practical conferences in specialised subordinate educational institutions. The draft action plan for 2024-2026 from the Russian side includes 65 measures in the development of all areas of the sports sphere," the deputy minister said.
Alexey Morozov noted that schoolchildren are in the focus of the Ministry's activities, and a large number of events are organised to attract them to motor activity. In the period from 15 to 20 November 2023, the International Festival of School Sports among the CIS member states is planned to be held in St. Petersburg. More than 400 schoolchildren from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Belarus are expected to participate in the Festival. Competitions are held in sports popular among schoolchildren - badminton, basketball 3x3, volleyball, mini-football, table tennis and chess.
The Deputy Minister also announced the holding of the CIS Spartakiade among children with disabilities in Russia.
"The Spartakiads will be held at intervals of once every four years, starting with the Winter Spartakiad in 2024 and the Summer Spartakiad in 2026. The first CIS Winter Spartakiad among children with disabilities will be held in 2024 in the Russian Federation. The Summer Spartakiade is proposed to be held for the first time in Russia in 2026," Morozov presented.
The delegation of Azerbaijan at the meeting presented the III Games of the CIS countries, which are planned to be held in 2025 in Ganja. The Council members supported the initiative to award the title "Sports Capital of the Commonwealth" in 2025 to the city of Ganja in Azerbaijan and in 2026 to the city of Almaty in Kazakhstan.
The Russian delegation also presented the upcoming projects - Friendship Games and Future Games - to the participants of the meeting.
