Tomorrow, September 24, any underage college or university students wishing to do so may receive a flu shot. Vaccination will take place at the medical center in the academic and laboratory building (Room E201) from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Getting vaccinated helps protect both yourself and those around you from the flu as the cold season approaches and the incidence of acute respiratory viral infections rises in late autumn. It is important to get vaccinated now, as it takes three to four weeks for immunity against influenza viruses to develop.
Annual vaccination is particularly important for those who experience severe illness, as well as for individuals studying or working in educational institutions—students included.
It is also important to be aware of contraindications, such as a severe allergic reaction to a previous dose of the vaccine or to any of the drug's components (e.g., egg protein).
