This year, the Volga Region University’s "Creativity of Peace and Harmony" festival is shifting away from its usual format. This ethno-cultural celebration is embracing the world of sports. The centerpiece of the event will be the "National Sports Game" competition category. Teams will not merely describe traditional pastimes but will demonstrate them in action, actively involving the audience.
Participants must complete four mandatory stages. First, a brief ethnographic overview or a theatrical performance lasting up to five minutes. Next, a clear explanation of the rules for the judges and the audience. Then, a demonstration of the game by the teams. Finally—and most excitingly—a mass-participation game where audience members step onto the court to become part of the performance. At least ten minutes are allocated for active audience participation.
The jury will evaluate entries based on six criteria: authenticity and historical basis, script and direction, audience engagement skills, atmosphere and visuals, the athletic/technical component, and the organization of the interactive segment. A maximum of 150 points can be awarded. In addition to traditional awards, special category prizes have been established.
The festival will take place on November 2 in the sports hall of the Volga Region University’s academic and laboratory building. Participant registration begins at 8:30 AM, the opening ceremony is at 10:00 AM, and the draw for the order of performance takes place at 10:30 AM. The competition itself starts at 10:40 AM and will last for two hours. After lunch, guests can attend workshops on national sports, and the day will conclude with an awards ceremony in the concert hall.
Applications for participation are open until October 25. The application form and competition regulations can be viewed below.
