The final match between the teams of Volga Region and Technological Institutes within the Student Basketball League took place in Kazan. The first half of the game was equal - the hosts set a high tempo of the game, and the guests were happy to support it. In the second half of the game “Winged Bars” began to rapidly increase the advantage, bringing the point difference to 43 points by the fourth quarter and winning the gold medal.
Before that, the Povolzhsky team had beaten Energy University in the semifinals with a difference of more than 50 points, and in the quarterfinals they also confidently defeated Agrarian University.
The girls who also reached the final did not disappoint. In the last match they faced Kazan Federal University. Even in the first quarter the team confidently took a dominant position, bringing the score difference to almost double. Later on throughout the game the Volga Region basketball players confidently maintained this trend, and the final score on the scoreboard amounted to 106:49.
In the semifinals the girls defeated Technological Institute with the score 74:49.
Lubov Bulavkina was recognized as the best offensive defender, and Viktoria Prokhorova was named the most valuable player.
On the men's side, German Magzhanov was the best defender, Ramil Gimaev was the best center, and Kirill Shilin was the most valuable player.
- It was very pleasant to feel the support of the fans throughout the season. Our victory was helped by the selfless play of the team and, of course, the instructions of the head coach Alexander Shagan. He always knows how to find the right words for us, to cheer us up and make us give our best.
For the girls are also very happy, well done, fully deserved victory. I am sure that they will have even greater successes.
