Sport brings people together, and staff and faculty members at the Volga Region University are no exception when it comes to physical activity. Today, the opening ceremony of the 5th Rector’s Cup Spartakiad—a competition for the university’s faculty and staff—took place in the sports hall of the academic and laboratory building. The event was organized by the Sports Department.

This year, the traditional tournament has undergone several changes: teams have been merged in certain disciplines to ensure everyone interested can participate, and new leagues for table tennis, darts, and volleyball have been added. This approach will create new sports teams comprising representatives from various departments, making the competition for the Rector’s Cup even more intense and strengthening bonds of friendship.

Adelia Pavlova (Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Digital Transformation), Iskander Galeev (Director of the Institute of Physical Culture), and Alexander Mironov (Head of the Sports Department) spoke at the ceremony to support their colleagues and celebrate this sporting event.

"The Spartakiad at the Volga Region University has a special atmosphere compared to other universities. It is gratifying to see that the competitions involve not only those whose lives are directly linked to sports but also representatives from other fields. Events like these are precisely what help people make new friends and spend time together in a way that benefits their health," said Adeliya Pavlova by way of encouragement.

For his part, Iskander Galeev wished the participants a fair contest: "Play and win; become prize-winners and competitors! May friendship and the beauty of movement triumph!"

In keeping with tradition, the competitions for the Rector’s Cup—part of the 5th Spartakiad for the faculty and staff of the Volga Region University—will take place throughout the academic year as part of the monthly "Healthy Wednesday" initiative.
