Seventeen students of the Volga Region University of Sports travelled to Volgograd, where they will take part in the XXVIII All-Russian Festival of Students of Higher Education Institutions of Physical Culture, subordinate to the Ministry of Sports of Russia, with international participation.
This year the festival is hosted by the Volgograd State Academy of Physical Culture. The event is timed to the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War and will be held from 20 to 24 May.
Before leaving, Rector Rafis Burganov and Vice-Rector for Administration, Social Development and Youth Policy Natalia Grechannikova met with the Volga Region University team.
- I wish you a successful performance. On the one hand, the festival is not a competition, but you and I are athletes and we have to be the best. It is very pleasant when our university is in the prizes. Not every university has such opportunities, but we are lucky to have an excellent material and technical base, which we should use properly.
We then take children with us as coaches, physical education teachers and organisers of tourist events. I have always believed that those who travelled themselves will drive, those who practiced themselves will enthuse others,’ Rafis Burganov, Rector of Volga Region University, admonished the students while seeing them off to the festival.
At the meeting, the students shared their plans and noted that they will brightly represent their alma mater in sports, science and creativity.
In the sports part of the festival the team will compete in physical training: ‘GTO-Victory: Sports Record for the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory’, overcoming the test course of ten stations, as well as a 4x50 metre freestyle swimming relay race.
At the competition of scientific reports ‘Prospects and ways of development of physical culture and sport’ students of Povolzhsky will present three reports, one of which is in English. And seven students will prove themselves in the quiz ‘Olympism Connoisseurs’. In addition, eight members of the team will take part in the creative competition ‘Time of Heroes’.
