The opening ceremony of the All-Russian Spartakiade of School Sports Clubs for Students with Disabilities and Children with Disabilities took place today - 17 May at the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism in Kazan. The event was attended by Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan Ilsur Khadiullin, Rafis Burganov, Rector of the Volga Region State University, and Sergey Tairov, acting Director of the Federal Centre for Methodological and Organisational Support of Physical Education.
Russian Education Minister Sergey Kravtsov gave a welcoming video address to the Spartakiade participants.
"I welcome you to the final of one of the largest competitions held by the Ministry of Education. Your participation is already a great victory, both for you personally and for those who have supported you all this time. The President announced the year 2023 as the Year of Teacher and Mentor. It is important to pay tribute to teachers and coaches alike. Reaching certain heights in sports is the way to a brilliant future. Because a healthy lifestyle is the key to success in every endeavour. Today, you are one step closer to the top, more confident and ready for new battles. I am sure that participation in such significant events will allow you to unlock your potential. I wish all the participants new impressions and emotions. And also I hope that your participation in the competition will be an important milestone in your life. Good luck and many victories," said Sergei Kravtsov.
It is noteworthy that the Spartakiade of School Sports Clubs for Students with Disabilities brought together winners of school, municipal and regional stages of the competitions in Kazan, the sports capital of Russia.
The Spartakiade is organised by the Russian Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Sport of Russia, the Federal Centre for Organisational and Methodological Support of Physical Education and the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism. The event is held with the support of the Paralympic Committee, Russia's Movement of Children and Youth "Movement of the Firsts" and School Sports Federation and All-Russian sports federations in sports on the Spartakiade programme.
148 students from 11 regions of Russia will take part in the competitions: Kemerovo, Lipetsk, Kaliningrad, Nizhny Novgorod, Omsk, Arkhangelsk Regions, the Donetsk People's Republic and also Dagestan, Khakassia, Bashkortostan and Tatarstan.
Competitions will be held in different sports: athletics, swimming, football, draughts and table tennis.
