Nine teams from Kazan's educational institutions took part in the 2nd All-Russian Student Swimming League Festival "Swimming Unites" held at the Burevestnik Swimming Pool. This time, apart from universities, students of secondary professional education institutions of Kazan - Kazan Medical College and Kazan School of Olympic Reserve - were among the participants.
Each team's composition included not only students, but also teachers and representatives of educational organisations' administration.
Rector of the Volga Region State University Rafis Burganov welcomed the festival's participants and pointed out the importance of the fact that teams of professional higher education establishments are taking part in the event. "I'm glad to welcome our fans who support everyone, no matter what delegation they come with," said Rafis Burganov. - It's good to see that the number of participants is increasing. For instance, Energy University set up two teams. And it's very good that along with university teams teams teams from the medical college and Olympic reserve school are also taking part.
The programme of the sports festival included relay races in applied swimming - transporting an object, swimming with a board, water polo ball handling, as well as such exercises as tossing the ball in the water and diving for objects.
At the end of six stages, the Volga Region University was named the best team, representatives of the Kazan School of Olympic Reserve took the second place, while students of Kazan Federal University rounded out the top three.
This year, in addition to the competition, the Festival included a number of educational events. It included seminars and refresher courses for physical education specialists and swimming coaches on the themes Practical Basics of Training Students in Swimming and Organising, Conducting and Refereeing Competitions in the Swimming Sport. The courses were conducted by Lev Kameshkov, an All-Russian judge, Dmitry Drozhetsky, head coach of the University's national swimming team, and Pyotr Mikhailov, Chairman of the University Student Referee League. In addition, swimming classes were held for students of higher and secondary education under the guidance of Dmitry Basin, an experienced coach, senior lecturer of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Aquatics, Master of Sport of Russia in swimming.
