The team of swimmers of the Volga Region University of Sports won the Cup of the All-Russian Student Swimming League. Nine Russian universities, three of which are sports, took part in the competitions, which took place from December 17 to 18 in Izhevsk.
Volga Region University was represented by 14 athletes. The winners in their disciplines were Irina Ryabova (100 meters breaststroke) and Daria Golovina, who has two "gold" medals (100 m in / s, 50 m breaststroke). Irina Zlobina has "gold" in the 50-meter freestyle, two "silver" (50 m backstroke, 100 m in / s) and one "bronze" (50 m butterfly).
Ekaterina Kuznetsova took second place in the 100 m backstroke and third in the 50 m backstroke. Nikita Markov (50m butterfly), Roman Kuznetsov (100m backstroke) and Dmitry Balandin (50m backstroke) became silver medalists. Dmitry Cherkasov became the second in the 100-meter distance and the third in the 50-meter butterfly. Irina Krasilnikova has two bronze medals (100 m butterfly, 100 m backstroke).
In relay races (4x100 m complex swimming) Volga Region University has "gold" in the competitions of women's teams (Ekaterina Kuznetsova, Daria Golovina, Ekaterina Maisheva and Irina Zlobina) and "silver" in men (Nikita Markov, Dmitry Balandin, Dmitry Cherkasov and Roman Kuznetsov). The University students also finished first in the 4x100 m mixed relay in complex swimming (Kuznetsov, Golovina, Cherkasov and Zlobina).
- The starts were unusual for us: on the one hand, they were fleeting, on the other, in order to score the maximum number of points, everyone had to swim four distances in two days. The advantages of the relay race, so many guys swam three distances in 40 minutes, almost like at training competitions. It is not necessary to expect an optimal result in such conditions, because sometimes the swims were five minutes after the previous ones, and they did not have time to recover. But we were able to show good physical shape, endurance and moral and strong-willed qualities–" commented Dmitry Drozhetsky, the coach of the university swimming team in Izhevsk.
