On June 12-13, the first stage of the Himgrad Cup sailing regatta on the Raketa 610 sports keel yachts was held in Kazan on one of the most beautiful water areas of the city – between the Kazan Family Center and the Kazan Kremlin. The team of the Volga Region University of Sports also takes part in the competition.
5 sailing yachts "Raketa-610", purchased by the Sailing Federation of the Republic of Tatarstan, arrived in Kazan in May. And already on June 11, the regatta for the "Himgrad Cup" started, established by the federation together with the Technopolis "Himgrad" with the support of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Republic of Tatarstan, the innovative technopark "Idea" and the company "Vneshtreydservis LTD".
There are still three stages ahead, which will be held on July 9-11, August 13-15 and September 17-19. Everyone can show up and take part in them.
Each stage of the regatta consists of one training and two race days and is held in the format of races with transfers. The regatta is an amateur one, organized to promote sailing in Tatarstan. The crews, consisting of absolute beginners, are "reinforced" by the organizers with experienced helmsmen. So during the competition, participants get the opportunity to learn the basics of the science of sailing.
According to the captain of the team of the Volga Region University, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Sports for Educational Work Anton Zanin, the university crew was formed just from such newcomers. The first acquaintance with sailing turned out to be fascinating and very successful: the team took the third place.
"The result was achieved mainly thanks to our experienced helmsman," says Anton Zanin. – We tried to execute all his commands as accurately and quickly as possible. Sailing actually turned out to be a very gambling sport, but also very difficult and requires good physical training.
The first stage of the regatta was attended by 6 teams from Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny. During the two race days, the weather tested the participants for strength – the teams had to withstand both heavy rain and squally wind, as well as the scorching sun and absolute calm. The debutants gained invaluable experience in fighting in various weather conditions.
The winner of the first stage of the "Himgrad Cup" was the team "Navigator Yacht Club".
Recall that the Volga Region University of Sports recently signed an agreement on cooperation with the Sailing Federations of Russia and Tatarstan. According to Albert Sadykov, the Chairman of the Board of the FPS of the Republic of Tatarstan, the participation of the university team in the regatta is the first and very important step in the framework of partnership relations:
- We have a great need for personnel and expect that the students who take part in these races will be interested in sailing and in the future will be able to help us in the development of the sport not only as athletes, but also as managers. The regatta, in general, is designed primarily to attract new enthusiasts to sailing. I am sure that many of those who participated in the races these days will forever love this sport.
