Foreign students of the Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism, first-year student Lidia Artamoshina (Kazakhstan) and 2nd-year student Sulton Bekmetov (Uzbekistan) became the winners of the Russian language Olympiad for foreign students of Kazan universities. The successful tandem, prepared by the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics under the leadership of Venera Volchkova, won the nomination "team competition, near abroad".

The event is traditionally held at the initiative of the Association of Foreign Students and Postgraduates of Kazan with the support of the Committee for Children and Youth of the city and the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication of Kazan Federal University. The organizers note that the Olympiad is not only a competition, but also an excellent way to promote the Russian language among foreign students, and a means of forming a positive image of Russia in the new geopolitical situation. The Olympiad also serves as a kind of summing up of the academic semester, tests the strength of knowledge and the ability of students to overcome language difficulties with the help of creativity, character and attitude to language as a communication tool.

In two full – time stages of the Olympiad - individual and team-the students of the sports university showed themselves in the best possible way. "For us, knowledge of the Russian language is rather a test of independence," Lidia Artamoshina comments on the victory. – It was also important for us not to let down our teachers (senior lecturer Angela Latypova and Associate Professor Gulnara Fakharova), who put a lot of effort into our training and, of course, the university, which we are very proud of!»
