On July 24, the Volga region Academy of sports started its entrance tests, which are being held online this year. To conduct exams, the University uses an automated proctoring system (a control procedure for an online exam or test).
To be more precise, the Volga Academy uses a hybrid proctoring system. In addition to the special program, the actions of applicants during the test are observed by "proctors" - employees of the University, who compare the car's readings with their own impressions.
According to the head of the information technology Department, Vladimir Suetin, in the end, it is they who make the final verdict, taking as a basis the Protocol formed by the program.  The program evaluates the behavior of applicants by 14 parameters and calculates a "confidence percentage"based on these data. Suspicious movements of the applicant during the test, conversations, the presence of strangers – everything is recorded and analyzed. But the machine approaches the process in many ways formally. If, for example, the applicant came to the exam with glasses, and the photo to confirm the identity is captured without them, the system may well declare a "substitution". At this point, the "Proctor" enters the case, which has the right to ignore this episode and correct the decision of the system.
There are a lot of subtleties and University employees and applicants could learn about all of them at the installation classes specially organized for them.
As Vladimir Suetin noted, every University in the current online era approaches the organization of entrance exams in its own way. Somewhere completely and completely trusted "proctors". But in the Volga Academy, you can hedge your bets and ensure the" validity " of test results by passing them through a double evaluation sieve.  At a minimum, the system disciplines, Suetin believes. After all, in order to" earn the trust " of the machine, the applicant must meet a certain set of formal requirements. Provide, for example, a certain level of lighting at the place of the exam. Insufficient illumination may prevent the system from identifying the applicant.
Well, the first to start passing entrance tests under the "watchful eye" of applicants for budget places in the master's program. This year, they have significantly increased compared to last year: 350 against 313. In total, the Academy conducts training in 13 (3 of them correspondence) master's programs. The entrance tests for the master's degree will be completed on July 30, and the bachelor's exams will begin on August 6.
