From 2 to 12 March 2019, Krasnoyarsk will host the XXIX world winter Universiade. Athletes-students will play 76 sets of awards in 11 sports: biathlon, skiing, Curling, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, orienteering skiing, figure skating, freestyle skiing, hockey, ball hockey and short track.
Students of the Volga region Academy of sports will be not only among athletes, but also among volunteers, without whom no major sports festival is possible today. Selection for the trip to Krasnoyarsk on various volunteer functions were seven students of the Academy: Maria Vorobyeva, Diana Lemeshev, Alina Mishkin, Olga Komarova, Ekaterina Shubina, Anna Kondakova and Anna Belyaeva.
Before the flight to Siberia, the volunteers shared their expectations from the upcoming student games.
"The emotions are only positive, the suitcase is assembled, the standby mode is on," says Maria Vorobyova. – My function – supervisor-officer of the National federations of University sports. I will not work directly with athletes, only with other volunteers - it will give me new acquaintances and, of course, new experience. 100 foreign volunteers will be represented at the Universiade, with whom there will be an opportunity to communicate and practice the language."
Before getting the coveted status of a volunteer, the girls went through several stages of selection in the form of interviews and online training, which ended with the final test of the acquired competencies.
"Emotions, when I was finally approved, were inexpressible, - shares Diana Lemesheva. - I have already been on international internships, but I wanted to become a member of this project. Having seen the letter, I even cried out with happiness-I didn't assume that I can react so. While I am in a joyful expectation and do not even realize that I leave home for a month and spend it in Siberia! I am looking forward to meeting with volunteers from different parts of Russia and abroad. When I was engaged in volunteer activities in Kazan, the circle of people was quite narrow, now it will be a completely different experience. I want to know not only people, but also the city, its history. I like winter sports more than summer ones, especially biathlon. If I have a chance, I will definitely try to get to the snowboard and figure skating competitions in my spare time."
"I like Curling from winter sports," Maria Vorobyova added. - My love for him began in 2016, when I was a volunteer at the world Curling championship among mixed teams in Kazan. If I have the opportunity, I will be happy to visit these competitions in Krasnoyarsk, especially since I know many athletes-participants personally. For other competitions, too, I will try to follow and support the Russian team and the students of the Academy represented in its composition, but everything will depend on the admission of accreditation and the possibility of combining with the changes."
