The visit of the Healthy Campus delegation on the second day continued with a visit to the sports facilities of the Volga Region University. In the morning, the experts visited the Rowing Sports Center, where they looked at the swimming pool with exercise equipment, the medical unit of the Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sports, as well as the sports and handball halls.
The head of the medical and sanitary department of the Research Institute of the Volga Region University, Gulnara Yanysheva, conducted a tour for the guests, during which experts examined the updated modern equipment for the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of athletes, and also studied the results of examinations and medical programs.
Then the delegation visited the Aquatic Sports Palace, where they inspected the main swimming pool, gym and sports halls with trampolines. Special attention was paid to the medical rehabilitation unit and modern equipment, in particular a cryocapsule for the rehabilitation of athletes. The experts also visited the hockey rink at the Zilant complex and the gyms at the Gymnastics Center. The excursion ended with a visit to the Tennis Academy and the Badminton Center.
“We were very lucky to visit the Volga Region University as Healthy Campus auditors; we were able to get to know the university’s capabilities firsthand. I admire the work of my colleagues, especially in terms of sports - they are true professionals in their field. The organization of student activities also deserves respect, because it becomes a help for the administration. The infrastructure is impressive, especially the Medical Unit and its modern equipment. This activity promotes the university’s social initiatives, opening its doors to the residents of Kazan. The “Healthy Environment” project deserves special attention, which promotes the values of a healthy lifestyle that correspond to Healthy Campus, and thanks to the Department of Tourism, the university can develop new international initiatives,” Healthy Campus expert Lyudmila Tsoi shared her impressions.
After the tour, the experts talked to the students, among whom were representatives of Russian and foreign regions. The topics included extracurricular activities, student clubs, volunteering and ecology. Special attention was paid to the adaptation of international students: tutoring and special events.
"This is not the first time I have come to Kazan and I have visited many sports facilities before, but after talking to the heads of the centres, I was very impressed by the fact that they all belong to the Volga Region University. The main task of coaches is to motivate athletes to use all the facilities. Today the university has all the facilities for the development of the sports sphere: from training facilities, to medical research. I believe that Povolzhsky University can act as an example for other sports universities in Russia. I would like to wish it to become a "forge of athletes" and train champions of international level. The results of the audit also outlined the points of growth, achieving which the Volga Region University can become even better," said Olympic champion Tatyana Lebedeva.
