Swimmers from all over Russia and Azerbaijan honoured the memory of Dmitry Usov, a graduate of the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, Master of Sports of Russia, Champion of the Russian Swimming Championship, Sergeant, Combat Veteran, who died heroically while performing his military duty in Ukraine... Today, the All-Russian Swimming Tournament "Rector's Cup of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism" started at one of the university's facilities - in the "Burevestnik" swimming pool and is dedicated to the memory of the hero swimmer.
Together with the Rector of the University Rafis Burganov and Raif Vafin, Head of the Department for Development of High Performance Sports of the Ministry of Sport of Tatarstan, Dmitry's mother Marina Usova opened the tournament.
Addressing the athletes, she wished them sporting excitement, high concentration and brilliant results.
Rector of the university Rafis Burganov noted that the competition is held for the third time and expands its geography from year to year. This year, representatives of the Republic of Azerbaijan are also taking part in the swims.
It should be noted that the tournament gathered more than 1000 participants from 32 regions of the country. Fifteen Russian universities presented their teams.
Competitions are held among girls 9-18 years old, boys 11-18 years old, as well as among women and men.
In addition to the competitive part of the Cup, these days there are excursions to the educational and laboratory building of the Volga Region University of Sport, as well as lectures for coaches, parents and athletes from the teaching staff.
