We have found the ideal place for training - it is the Rowing Centre in Kazan. This was announced by Angel Luis Garcia, President of the Cuban National Rowing Team, at a meeting with Rafis Burganov, Rector of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. The meeting of the parties was held at the university with the participation of Anton Zarutsky, Vice President of the Russian Rowing Federation, Azat Sharapov, First Vice-Rector of the university, and Andrey Nazarenko, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities.
The Cuban national rowing team has not visited Russia since the times of the former USSR. The Russian Rowing Federation invited the team to regattas in Vladivostok and organised training events in Kazan - for the second year the team has been preparing for competitions in the capital of Tatarstan.
"We have found the perfect venue for the competition. The preparation of our athletes for the season has been completed. Thanks to the conditions offered to our team and the good attitude of our hosts, we have decided to come back to you again and again," said the President of the Cuban National Team.
As the rector of the university, Rafis Burganov, noted, the university’s facilities have created the most comfortable conditions for training athletes and their recovery, including in the Rowing Sports Center. Conditions continue to improve - repairs are currently underway and equipment is being updated.
It is worth noting that the Kazan Rowing Sports Center is the only modern sports facility in Russia that meets the requirements of the International Federation of Kayak and Canoe Rowing and the International Rowing Federation. The sports center includes a rowing pool, a specialized hall with rowing ergometers, a swimming pool, a universal gym, a sports medicine center, and the Regatta Hotel training center.
The sports facility is intended to hold training events in rowing and kayaking and canoeing for students of the Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism, national teams of Russia, Tatarstan and a children's and youth sports school in rowing sports; holding sports competitions at the Russian and international levels, sports and entertainment events, providing physical education and health services to the population.
The medical and sanitary part of the Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sports deserves special attention. The Sports Medicine Center is unique in its scientific sports medical base. There is every opportunity to provide scientific, methodological and medical-biological support along with the training process. Programs and methods of the training and recovery process for athletes have been successfully introduced. The research developments of the Institute of Physical Culture and Sports make it possible not only to diagnose the problem that has arisen, but also to successfully cope with it thanks to modern equipment and specialists from the medical unit of the university.
