Today the Cuban National Rowing Team completes a two-week training camp in Kazan. The training sessions were held at the Rowing Centre. Then the coaches of the national team met with the management of the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. My colleague Dmitry Vtorov found out about the guests' impressions.
7am. Rowing canal. Final training session of Cuban rowers. This is the second time the team from Liberty Island has trained in Kazan. The athletes themselves admit that the entire base for professional rowing training meets international standards.
The Cuban national rowing team has not visited our country since the times of the former USSR. After being invited by the Russian Rowing Federation, the team visited competitions in Moscow and Vladivostok for the first time, and also held training events in Kazan.
‘We found the perfect place to compete and train,’ shares Angel Luis Garcia. One of the national team's mentors is the president of the Cuban federation as well as the president of the Central American and Caribbean Rowing Confederation.
‘We remember last year's training camp in Kazan very well. When all conditions were created here, we saw the modern equipment and attitude towards us, of course we wanted to come here next time. Besides, training here, it is a good chance to get to the Olympic Games,’ said Angel Luis Garcia, President of the Cuban Rowing Federation and President of the Central American and Caribbean Rowing Confederation.
At the end of the training camp at the meeting with the management of the Volga Region University of Physical Education, Sports and Tourism, the coaching staff thanked Rafis Burganov for the warm welcome and creation of all conditions. In turn, the rector recalled the long-standing friendly ties between our countries and assured - the doors for friends are always open. The University has the most modern medical equipment for rehabilitation of athletes and for analysing the state of health.
Therefore, there is a lot for sports doctors to talk about. In an interview with ‘Vesti’ Angel Garcia noted why rowing sports are very popular in Cuba.
‘Many young people choose rowing because this sport trains several muscle groups, allows you to be healthy, physically aesthetic. This is one of the motivations,’ said Angel Luis Garcia president of the Cuban Rowing Federation and president of the Central American and Caribbean Rowing Confederation.
Tomorrow the Cuban national team will leave for Switzerland for the next stage of the World Rowing Cup. And our Kazan Rowing Centre is waiting for the national teams of Russia and Iran for regular training.
