25 representatives of the University of Sport and Tourism, among activists and volunteers of youth organisations met veterans of the Great Patriotic War, veterans of combat operations and veterans of labour on the platform in front of the theatre. The students congratulated the heroes on the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

Rustam Minnikhanov, the Rais of Tatarstan, traditionally attended the ceremony. According to the press service of the Rais, he noted that Victory Day is a special, truly national holiday, which is dear to all citizens of Russia.

State Counsellor of RT Mintimer Shaimiev, Prime Minister of RT Alexei Pesoshin, as well as representatives of ministries and agencies took part in the solemn event.

- Dear front-line soldiers and home front workers! Servicemen of the Kazan garrison! Dear friends, I heartily congratulate you on the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War! 80 years have passed, but the pain of loss and the joy of Victory still live in every family, in every corner of our vast homeland. Time has not erased from our hearts neither the courage of soldiers who fought for their native land, nor the steadfastness of those who worked for victory in the rear. Today, the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of veterans courageously defend the interests of the country during a special military operation. We are grateful to our heroes for their bravery and loyalty to the Motherland,’ said Rustam Minnikhanov, Rais of Tatarstan.

With a minute of silence, the participants of the ceremony honoured the memory of those who died bravely defending the Motherland.

Rustam Minnikhanov emphasised that it is our duty to preserve the historical truth about the events of those tragic years and to pass on the values of patriotism and mutual support to the younger generation.

- Today we were able to thank veterans for the victory in the Great Patriotic War, which they won 80 years ago. I believe that such events make young people feel proud of their homeland and the great feat of our ancestors. I myself am participating in the ceremony for the third year in a row - I am glad that I am dedicating my holidays to such an important event,’ Lenar Galiev, a student of Volga Region University and Sports Advisor of the Youth Government of the Republic of Tatarstan, shared.
