Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Chernyshenko presented Mikhail Degtyarev, the new head of the ministry, to the central office of the Ministry of Sport.

Deputy Prime Minister noted the results of Oleg Matytsin's work at the head of the federal ministry.

"Under the leadership of Oleg Vasilyevich a lot of work was done by the Ministry of Sport of Russia in difficult times: coronavirus restrictions, unprecedented sanctions of the West. We have demonstrated to the whole world that we are an independent full-fledged power with strong athletes, a powerful reserve and personnel," said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

Deputy Prime Minister emphasised the main priorities in the work of the department: "Further development requires a certain reset. On the instructions of the President, we must achieve all the indicators in the development of mass sports, which is the basis of the pyramid from which champions grow. I hope that a new national project will be adopted, because sport is a powerful universal tool for educational work. Mikhail Vladimirovich Degtyarev is a well-known manager who understands the system of sport, his thesis was devoted to the foreign experience of administrative and legal regulation of anti-doping measures in sport", - said Dmitry Chernyshenko.

"I thank Russian President Vladimir Putin for the trust he has placed in me. I thank Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin for the offer to work as a member of the Cabinet of Ministers. We will work further in accordance with the Decrees and Orders of the Head of State to improve the system of physical culture and sport in the country," said Mikhail Degtyarev in his welcoming speech.

Oleg Matytsin, summing up the results of his work as Minister, thanked the entire staff of the department and subordinate organisations for their work and noted the high level of professionalism of the personnel.

"We have achieved important results. All Orders and Decrees were successfully fulfilled thanks to the well-coordinated work of the team. Sport remains one of the priorities of state policy. Listening to Mikhail Vladimirovich's speeches in the State Duma, I was very pleased with the vector of development he presented. His experience as a legislator will be very useful in the walls of the Ministry of Sport of Russia", - said Oleg Matytsin during the transfer of powers.

Mikhail Degtyaryov was appointed the new Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation by Presidential Decree No. 398 of 14 May 2024. He succeeds Oleg Matytsin, who held the post since 2020. Mikhail Degtyaryov is a master of sports in fencing, a multiple winner of city and regional competitions, a multiple prize-winner of All-Russian and international fencing competitions.
