The annual competition ‘Race of Heroes’ - a 10 km run with obstacles - was held on 27 July on the Sviyazhskie hills. Among the participants of the race were Dmitry Goncharenko, a lecturer of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education and Sports, and Angelika Arapova, a student of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Athletics and Rowing Sports, who took first place in the 18-29 age category.
‘The organisers took a responsible approach to their work - they built an excellent course. I got a lot of positive emotions, on the way the participants actively supported each other, and it greatly raised morale. Passing the ‘Race of Heroes’ gives a lot of adrenaline and an incredible sense of excitement, there are intertwined competition, aspirations for victory, fear and excitement’, - said Dmitry Goncharenko, a teacher of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Physical Education and Sport.
Angelika Arapova, being a member of the Republic of Tatarstan national steeplechase team, not only ran the course, but also overcame all 32 trials. Her rivals could not pass some of them, so they were disqualified, as failure to pass even one obstacle will result in the athlete leaving the course.
‘I'm glad I won, although I haven't run for the last two weeks because of an injury. I passed all the obstacles at the race at the first attempt, but the hardest test was the one kilometre long mountain. My rivals did not pass the Cowboy obstacle, which even many men cannot overcome. I used to have difficulties with it too, but today experience helped me. My future plans are to recover for the next start. Ahead is the All-Russian steeplechase competition in Chelyabinsk,’ Angelika Arapova shared her impressions.
