Mikhail Degtyarev, Russia’s Minister of Sport and President of the Russian Olympic Committee, visited the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism—an institution under the Ministry of Sport’s jurisdiction—during his busy itinerary in the capital of Tatarstan.
Accompanied by University Rector Rafis Burganov and Tatarstan’s Minister of Sport Vladimir Leonov, he toured the Aquatics Palace; he visited the complex's main arena and viewed the three Olympic-standard pools from the stands.
At the facility, Mikhail Degtyarev met with swimmers from the Center for Sports Training of Student Teams—a pilot project the Volga Region University joined in 2022. Through this center, the university offers supplementary sports training programs in two disciplines—rowing and swimming—allowing students to pursue their athletic training alongside their primary academic studies.
During the conversation, Mikhail Degtyarev asked the students about their preparations for the Russian Championship and whether they were satisfied with the conditions provided for them. The swimmers spoke positively about the comfortable accommodation and dining facilities at the university dormitory and shared their future plans. The Minister concluded the visit by wishing the athletes success.
