More than 600 representatives of the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism will take part in the city events dedicated to Victory Day.

Eighty years ago, Soviet soldiers and home front workers liberated not only their homeland, but also the whole world from fascism with blood and sweat. The Day of Victory in the Great Patriotic War is approaching, the memory of which does not fade in the hearts of people years later.

Volga Region University - staff, teachers and, of course, students will honour the memory of the heroes on this day. On the ninth of May they will take part in solemn events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory.

The Tatar Musa Jalil Opera and Ballet Theatre will traditionally host a ceremony honouring veterans of the Great Patriotic War and veterans of combat operations. On the eve of the event, students of Kazan universities and volunteers of youth organisations will meet the heroes on the square near the theatre. Students of the Volga Region University will also join the greeters.

One of the main events of Victory Day will be the procession of the Immortal Regiment, which this year will be held in the traditional format. 500 representatives of Povolzhsky - employees, teachers and students - will take to the streets with portraits of their relatives and friends to honour the memory of heroes.

Part of the evening programme of the Victory Day celebrations will be the project ‘Singing Kazan’, which will unite youth groups, as well as the city's combined choir. The sports university will be represented at the concert by 80 people.

In addition, ten pairs of students from Volga Region University will perform a waltz to Iosif Kobzon's song ‘May Waltz’. The video of the students' performance will become part of the traditional action “Victory Waltz”.
