On November 5, the Match TV channel will premiere the documentary film “Universiade. 10 years later". The film is dedicated to the anniversary of the XXVII World Summer Universiade, which took place in Kazan in July 2013. Thanks to the film, viewers will learn about the preparation and holding of one of the most significant events in the recent history of Russian sports. The film premiere will begin at 11:05 Moscow time.

“It would not be an exaggeration to say that the Summer Universiade divided the history of Kazan into before and after. And this concerns not only the sports infrastructure of the capital of Tatarstan, but also the lives of all citizens, the recognition of our city in the world. It was an amazing celebration of sports and friendship, which will remain for a long time in the hearts of everyone who had a hand in its organization or witnessed the competition,” said Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan.

The Summer Universiade in Kazan became the largest in the history of the World University Games and a record in many areas, including the total number of participants, representation of countries, number of sports and sets of medals played.

"The 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan not only left the brightest mark in the history of Russian sport, but also helped organise the next competitions, such as the Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, the 2015 World Aquatics Championships and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. The success of the Universiade proved that Russia loves sport and that our country can host international tournaments of any scale," said Azat Kadyrov, First Deputy Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation.

The Summer Universiade was organised and hosted by 20,000 volunteers representing 53 universities in Russia and 24 countries around the world.

"One of the most significant legacies of the 2013 Summer Universiade was the volunteer movement, which was born and began to actively develop in Tatarstan during those years. People of various ages and professions were united by the idea of helping to organise the competitions at the highest level, and together we managed to do it," Rafis Burganov, Rector of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism, stressed.

Earlier, the film "Universiade. 10 Years Later" was shown as part of the out-of-competition programme "Oh! Sport! You are the World" at the XIX Kazan International Muslim Film Festival to be held in early September 2023.
