Rector of the Volga Region University Rafis Burganov held a meeting with the teaching staff dedicated to the results of the past academic year and tasks for the new one. Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, was the guest of the meeting - he awarded the university staff for their fruitful work during the international multi-sport tournament ‘BRICS Sports Games’ and two for their contribution to the development and popularisation of physical culture and sports.
‘The University has fulfilled the admission control figures for all educational programmes. In this admission campaign, Povolzhsky was allocated 1,051 budget places, of which 759 for bachelor's degree programmes, 222 for master's degree programmes and 70 for vocational education programmes,’ Rector Rafis Burganov stressed in his report. - We accepted almost 7700 applications from 2718 applicants and enrolled 1297 students in the first year, 240 of whom were enrolled on a full cost recovery basis’.
The number of first-year students from other regions of the country increased by 11% - students came from 71 regions, the leaders being Udmurtia, Bashkiria, Kirov and Samara regions. There are foreign applicants from 11 countries, including Iran, Colombia, Madagascar, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Ecuador and Iran.
‘Povolzhsky University participates in the implementation of the national project ‘Tourism and Hospitality Industry’ The Centre for Development of Human Resources Potential of the Tourism Industry was established at the Institute of Further Education, where the professional retraining programme ‘Management of Tourism Territory Development: Project Approach’ is successfully implemented’, - said the rector.
Over the past year, the Volga Region University distinguished itself in the scientific sphere - its employees submitted 50 applications for participation in scientific grants, defended seven candidate and one doctoral theses, and received seven academic titles.
The Research Institute is developing - in 2023, more than 3,000 examinations and 2,000 in-depth medical examinations of athletes were carried out here. Scientific and methodological support of the national teams of Russia and the Republic of Tatarstan, rugby clubs Strela and Zilant, handball club Zilant-Kazan, water polo club Sintez, as well as field hockey club Dynamo-Ak Bars is being provided on a permanent basis. Teams from other countries, such as Egypt, Cuba and the United Arab Emirates, are actively coming.
‘We develop and strengthen relations with friendly states: during the year we signed six cooperation agreements with foreign higher education organisations from Belarus, Kazakhstan, China, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan,’ Rafis Burganov stressed.
In 2024, the university was the first sports university in Russia to receive the highest platinum level of FISU Non-Alcoholic Campus, which confirms the availability and safety of the services provided.
‘The University annually becomes a platform for significant events. For the first time in history, we became participants of the International Multisport Tournament ‘Games of the Future’, after which we received a new facility - the Fijital Centre. The facilities also hosted the BRICS Games, where our students won 25 medals, including 16 gold, seven silver and two bronze medals. The BRICS Heads of State Summit is ahead, where the Volga Region will also become an important venue,’ the Rector noted summarising the results of the last academic year.
