Rustam Minnikhanov met with leading athletes and coaches of the republic today. The meeting was held at the Ak Bars Arena stadium.
Before the meeting Rustam Minnikhanov visited the new Sports Museum of the Republic of Tatarstan. Here you can see all the brightest sporting moments associated with Tatarstan. The exposition includes an extensive collection of paraphernalia and exhibits, interactive stands, augmented reality elements and a projection room.
Opening the meeting, Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, noted that Tatarstan is one of the leaders of the country in terms of sports development. There are 160 sports schools in the republic and 136 sports are being developed. During the current season Tatarstan athletes have won 944 medals. The number of members of the national teams of Russia from the Republic of Tatarstan is growing every year - 907 athletes.
Today, Tatarstan is one of the leaders in the provision of sports facilities in the country. The total number of sports facilities in the republic is over 11.6 thousand.
Greeting the participants of the meeting, Rustam Minnikhanov congratulated the athletes and coaches on their successful performances at international and Russian competitions: "Despite the current geopolitical situation, you continue to train hard and demonstrate high sportsmanship, determination and unbending faith in victory. Thanks to you, the sports industry of Tatarstan is getting a new impetus for development. Your high sports results are a powerful incentive to hard work for 94 thousand boys and girls who study in sports schools of the republic".
Rais Tatarstan noted that a lot of work is being done in the republic to create the most comfortable conditions for the training process: modern sports facilities are being built, the material and technical base of sports schools is being strengthened, incentive payments and bonuses for achievements are being paid. "Our task is to continue to provide comprehensive support to athletes, coaches and all employees of the industry," Rustam Minnikhanov emphasised.
Today, 60 per cent of Tatarstan residents are systematically engaged in physical culture and sports. According to Rais RT, this is also the merit of sports figures. "By your example you propagate leading a healthy lifestyle and the desire to achieve high results," he said.
Rais Tatarstan noted that 2023 was declared the Year of Teacher and Mentor by the Decree of the President of Russia. "This emphasises the high status of coaches and teachers as mentors of the younger generation and the importance of your work. I would like to thank all coaches for their labour and dedication. Thanks to your efforts, ordinary kids become champions," Rustam Minnikhanov said.
"We are proud of the athletes and coaches who glorify Tatarstan. I am sure there are many loud victories ahead of you. You will continue to give us unforgettable emotions, write a bright history of sports achievements of the republic and the country," Rustam Minnikhanov added.
