Rafis Burganov, Rector of the Volga Region State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism, and Aleksey Sozinov, Rector of Kazan State Medical University, signed an agreement on mutual cooperation between the universities today. The document was signed during a visit to the Volga Region State University Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sports at the Rowing Centre.

Within the framework of the agreement, the educational institutions plan to cooperate in education, research activities, development of scientific, practical and scientific-methodological materials, to ensure the development of partnership between the universities.

Research Institute of Physical Education and Sport is a unique scientific and sports medicine base. It has all possibilities to provide methodological and medical-biological support along with training process. Successfully implemented programs and methods of training and rehabilitation process for athletes. Developments at the Institute of Physical Education and Sport make it possible not only to diagnose a problem, but also to deal with it successfully, thanks to modern equipment and specialists.

The medical unit conducts current examinations of the functional state of professional athletes in order to correct the training process, identify and prevent the initial stages of pathological changes, maladaptation and overtraining. Qualified specialists can assess the level of functional training, identify factors limiting sport performance, adjust the training process and draw up a programme of rehabilitation measures.

The centre provides in-depth medical examinations for selecting children for sports clubs and schools.

After the signing Rector of KSMU Alexey Sozinov noted that the signed agreement is not only a start of new forms of interaction but also consolidation of the existing projects.

"It is certainly a document that sets our joint objectives for the development of both educational programmes and applied science related to assistance in the athletes' training process and health preservation in terms of sports medicine. And, of course, research, which is important so that our children become healthier, our athletes perform better, and we can be proud of Russian sport. And for this we need research in fundamental medicine, physiology, psychology, state of cardiovascular system, nervous system, and issues related to athletes' nutrition, lifestyle, and rehabilitation process. All this will be set out in the form of a coherent work plan," said Alexey Sozinov.

At the end of the meeting, on the eve of the New Year, the Rector of KSMU presented Rafis Burganov with the valuable publication "Avicenna: Moral Foundations of Medicine".
