The women's and men's handball teams of Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism once again took part in the All-Russian Tournament "Heroes of the City". This year was a jubilee year for the tournament and took place from 10 to 11 December in Chekhov.
The innovation of this season was the increase in match play for the Women's team, which played on a round robin system. The first games were played on December 10. The women's team defeated the "Gubernskoe sozvezdie" (15:8), "Winsome" (17:6), "VG" (14:8) and "INV" (21:13), but unfortunately played in a draw with the winners of the spring tournament - "Vorobievy Gory" (10:10) and lost to "OLYMPIA" (10:16). In spite of these disappointments, our girls kept fighting for the final and on December 11 met the "Vorobyovy Gory" again, in a tough game which ended in a 9-6 defeat. In the match for the 3rd place they confidently defeated the "INV" team and took a place on the podium.
Men's team played 4 matches on the first match day. Our handballers beat "Vorobyovy Gory" (14:6) and "Oldskool" (18:8), but lost to "Sturm" (9:11) and "Protvino" (7:16). As a result of the group matches, the men's team dropped out of further medal contention.
