Students of the Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism climbed onto the podium of the "Russian open 2022" Open International Tournament. The taekwondo competition was held the day before in Krasnogorsk and gathered representatives of 16 countries - Brazil, Pakistan, Ethiopia, India, Iran, Mali, Morocco and others.
Seven university students represented Russia and Volga Region University at the tournament; two of them won prizes in the kerugi discipline. Silver medalist in the weight category up to 53 kg was Vladislava Sorokina, a freshman of the university, "bronze" in the weight category up to 49 kg was won by Galina Medvedeva, a third-year student.
Tomorrow, on December 3rd, the Volga Region State University's taekwondo team will take to the mats in Lyubertsy to compete for the All-Russian Youth Taekwondo Cup.
"The composition of our team is 20 people, we plan to win them all," said Alexei Kaplev, coach of the university's team, senior lecturer of the martial arts theory and methodology department. - Our main opponents are teams from the Russian State University of Physical Culture and Sport, Peter the Great University. Lesgaft University and Kuban University of Sport. There our guys will compete in two disciplines - kerugi and pkhumse.
