Daniyar Sadretdinov, Candidate of Geographical Sciences, Associate Professor of Pedagogy and Psychology of the Institute of Physical Culture of the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism, was the judge of the VII Tatarstan Young Geographers Tournament.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Tatarstan jointly with the Republican Olympiad Centre. Twelve problems were presented to the finalists of the tournament from 22 teams of towns and districts of the Republic of Tatarstan, eight of which had to be solved.
"I have been a trainer and consultant for participants of national and all-Russian Olympiads in geography for twenty years, as well as the author of competitive tasks for national tournaments," says Daniyar Sadretdinov. - It is important for tournament participants not only to justify their point of view, but also to defend it in arguments with opponents, reviewers and jury members. In doing so, they have to do everything "on the fly". There is a long list of topics to solve, but it is not known which one will be the task beforehand and the solution will be proposed by the opposing team. A peculiarity of tournament battles is that the tasks have no clear-cut solutions, and some of them can be solved in the long run. Hence the vision and problem solving that often emerge in such discussions".
