Our students are athletes who love to compete and win, because that is what they learn within the walls of the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism. "Healthy Environment" is a monthly celebration of healthy lifestyles; on this day, science and sport take priority over academic pursuits.

On October 19, the Burevestnik stadium hosted the first-ever All-Russian 'Ready for Labour and Defence' sporting complex tournament for university students.

More than 100 participants from 13 teams of institutes competed in the sixth age group to meet the standards of the GTO complex. The tests were as follows: running for 60 metres, pulling up, shuttle run, long jump from a place, incline on a gym bench and raising of the trunk, all the things they learned at school and reinforced at athletics and sports improvement sessions. And there were bonuses for those students who had sports titles - extra points to their results.

The tournament was led by Gulfiya Gabdulhaerova, head of the "GTO" testing centre, and members of the League of Sports Judges, students of the University of Sport and Tourism.

The awards were given to the boys and girls separately in each individual event. And the strongest teams were identified on the basis of the total number of places taken.

And the places were distributed as follows: the victory was taken by the team "Altair" (Institute of Physical Culture), the second was the guys from the team "Olympics" (International Institute of Hotel Service and Tourism), the third was taken by "Fitness Champions" (Institute of Sports).

"The GTO complex is over a hundred years old, it was first introduced in 1918, generation after generation has been passing these norms. And I am sincerely glad that the relevance has not been lost. Our society still needs young, brave and strong young people, and by completing the norms of the TRP, the children acquire all these necessary qualities," said Natalia Grechannikova, Vice-Rector for Administration, Social Development and Youth Policy.
