On November 24-25 in Kazan on the field of football and athletics arena of the Central stadium will be held the games of the second, final round of the Championship of student Rugby League (Rugby-7) among men's and women's universities of the Republic of Tatarstan. The tournament started a week ago. The Volga region Academy of sports was represented at the tournament by two teams.
In 2016, in Rio de Janeiro, Rugby 7 debuted at the Olympic games. The first Olympic Champions in the history of the Games were the Fiji Islands Rugby players, the women's tournament was won by the Australian team. Inclusion in the Olympic family has significantly increased the status of Rugby in the country. In particular, attention to the development of this sport began to be paid at the student level. For the start of the League, the Ministry of sports, in particular, provided all teams with uniforms.
In the Volga region Academy could not but react to the events: in the summer at the University were created men's and women's teams to participate in the Republican League, the prize Fund of which is about 1 million rubles. The team was headed by a graduate of the Academy Andrey Polikarpov, as a player who defended the colors of "Dynamo-Energy", called to the youth team of Russia. At the end of his playing career he worked as a trainer in RSDYUSSHOR Dynamo. According to Andrei, almost all University teams have one or two players involved in Rugby before admission. Against this background, the clear favorite looks to be the team of the KGEU, the backbone of which is formed by the players of "Dynamo-Energy". Colors Academy team also protects a pair of Rugby players " with experience." However, one delegates Chelny branch of the University for specific matches. The rest have to teach the wisdom of Rugby "from scratch". The most popular - "igroviki" and athletes-sprinters. The first because of the skills of team play, the second because of the ability to run fast and strong physique.
- Basically, beginners have difficulties with understanding the rules, - says Polikarpov. - But if you manage to convey the essence of the game, then everything is easier.    
The opening of the League on November 10 was attended by Tatarstan Prime Minister, President of the Rugby Federation of Tatarstan, master of sports of Russia Alexey Pesoshin. Members of the League included the teams of Kazan Federal University, Kazan state power engineering University, KAZAN state technical University, kgau, Patchset, kgasu, KAZAN state technical University Kazan state technological University, KSMU Kazan higher tank school.
The starting round was successful for the teams of the Volga Academy. According to the formula of the tournament, on the first day of the competition the opponents were divided into groups, and in the second they played in the Cup system. Girls at the group stage did not meet serious resistance from the opponent, having won two victories with the same score 29:0.
Men's team, starting with the defeat of the team CASS in one point (14:15). The advantage of the opponents determined the presence of the "agricultural" strong pair "shutochnye". In the game with the command tank school "academics" seemed already more than played and won (15:5). Finished the group stage of our Rugby players with a confident victory over KAZAN state technical University Kazan state technological University (26:5), coming into the playoffs from the first place. After three matches, each team had one defeat and one victory, but our young men were the first in the group by points.
On the second day of the competition, our men's team as the winner of the group stage, played for the finals with the team that took second place in the second group – KNITU-KAI (28:0). But at the end of "academics" lost Kazan state power engineering University (7:26). Affected by the lack of experience of most players.
But the girls at the stage of the playoffs continued the victorious pace: in the semifinals defeated the team of the agrarian University (29: 0), and in the final in a bitter struggle surpassed the CFU (12:5).  
After the tour, the coach of the Academy teams Andrey Polikarpov commented on the game of his players: "the team of girls just did well, a little confused in the final, but it's okay, won on the experience gained in the games for the student team of Kazan at the all-Russian tournament held in early November. Young men-real men, showed a good game for their level, and most importantly - excellent dedication. The guys were playing with injuries, but no one is Philo, not asked to replace, played to the last, and the finale proved it. The first half was just unreal, our team even led 7: 0. But the team of Kazan state power engineering University played 6 students, in favour of "Dynamo-Energiya", so they quickly equalized, and in the second half, playing up the experience and brought the game to win."
