The taekwondo competition ended at the All-Russian Universiade in Ufa, where 22 best Russian universities were selected.
The Volga Region University team took second place in the competition.
Students of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Martial Arts under the guidance of Alexey Kaplev showed high results. Galina Medvedeva and Aram Muradyan took the first places in their weight categories, and Olga Dolgova and Khochbar Nurmagomedov became the second.
At the two previous summer All-Russian Universiades, representatives of the Volga Region were only fourth in the overall ranking. This year, only 17 points separate the team from the winners - the team of the Petr Lesgaft National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health from St. Petersburg.
“For taekwondo athletes of the Volga Region University, these are the most important competitions, despite the fact that among them there are participants and silver medalists of the European Championships. Our athletes showed themselves worthy at this tournament - not only the tournament favorites had success. For us, team “silver” is a personal victory and the skill of each athlete,” team coach Alexey Kaplev shared his impressions.
