Volga Region University athletes won the team tournament at the All-Russian Badminton Competition among students, which took place in Makhachkala.
Under the guidance of Alfred Shamgullin, senior lecturer of the Department of Theory and Methodology of Tennis and Badminton, and Igor Nazarov, head coach of the national team, Volga University was represented by students Regina Galiakhmetova, Lyudmila Usova, Polina Grigorieva, Regina Galieva, Nikita Muleyev, Ilyas Khairiev, Ivan Gushchin and graduate Pavel Monich.
"We have been preparing for the sports season since August. The All-Russian competition among students is our third tournament in a row in October. First, the same team played in Ramenskoye in the individual and team championships of Russia, then we went to Makhachkala, where we competed with teams that also played in previous tournaments," said Regina Galiakhmetova. "We met our strongest opponent in the second game - the Nizhny Novgorod team was made up of guys from the Russian national team, but we were able to win with a score of 3:1, and the women's team of the Volga Region University defeated their rivals from the Moscow Region.
We are participating in the All-Russian competition for the second year in a row and are happy that we won again. We have grandiose plans for the sports season - many tournaments await us, but we are especially preparing for the Russian Cup and the Spartakiad of the Strongest."
