The Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism was visited by the Minister of Scientific and Technological Development, Higher Education and Information Society of the Republic of Srpska, Budimir Željko

The Minister's visit took place in the framework of the BRICS summit, which is currently taking place in Kazan.

The delegation, which also included representatives of the Republika Srpska media, began its acquaintance with the infrastructure of the university at the Rowing Sports Centre, where the Research Institute of Physical Education and Sports is located, as well as the Regata Hotel. The tour was conducted by Rector Rafis Burganov, Vice-Rector for Administration and Social Development Natalia Grechannikova, Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities Andrei Nazarenko and Deputy Director General of the Directorate of Sports and Social Projects Ranko Tepavcevic.

"The Volga Region University works with many neighbors - republics and countries of the CIS. We have long been cooperating with the Serbian University of Novi Sad," noted Rafis Burganov. "We can offer educational programs in the field of theory and methodology of sports, as well as scientific research and holding events of various formats - not only sports. The Volga Region University develops not only professional sports, but also pedagogy, tourism, and sports management. In each of these areas, we and our guests from the Republic of Srpska can find something that will be interesting to both parties."

Budimir Zhelko toured the infrastructure of the Research Institute of Physical Culture and Sport, where he saw the equipment for athletes‘ recovery, as well as familiarised himself with the athletes’ testing system, which helps control biochemical and physical indicators.

Gulnara Yanysheva, head of the medical unit, and Rustam Yakubov, deputy head and sports doctor, demonstrated the possibilities of modern equipment. The visit ended in the training and laboratory building of the Volga Region University.

"I am very impressed by what they showed us. I have not seen anything like this anywhere in the European Union, not even in the capitals. The infrastructure of the Volga Region University combines science and sports - this is something incredible," said Budimir Zeljko. "The rector of the Volga Region University proposed a scheme for cooperation with two universities in the Republic of Srpska, where there are faculties of physical education and sports - I expect that in the near future we will sign a cooperation agreement and open up new sports, scientific and cultural-educational opportunities. I hope that by the end of the year we will see the first initiatives in our cooperation."
