Last year was a very productive year for the Volga Region University Research Institute. At the inaugural conference, the sports university's rector, Rafis Burganov, emphasized that by 2024, the institute had conducted over 5,000 athlete examinations and performed nearly 19,000 medical procedures.

Currently, over 7,000 athletes are registered with the Volga Region University Research Institute's medical department. These include not only university students but also professional athletes: Strela (rugby), Ak Bars Dynamo (men's and women's field hockey teams), Rubin (women's soccer team), and others. They also include children and teenagers training at sports schools in Kazan, the Republic of Tatarstan, and neighboring regions of Russia.

In addition, the Volga Region University medical unit provides examinations and recuperation for foreign athletes who come to Kazan for competitions or training camps. Among them are volleyball players and young swimmers from the United Arab Emirates, as well as rowers from Cuba and Pakistan. The geography of the medical unit's patients only grows each year.

"Last academic year, we developed and implemented a method of whole-body cryotherapy into our rehabilitation program. This year, we also plan to develop new treatment programs and help our athletes achieve high athletic results through non-drug-based training and recovery methods," said Gulnara Yanysheva, Head of the Medical Unit.
