The All-Russian Student Rowing Competition was held in Nizhny Novgorod at the Pechery Rowing Canal, where the finals of the summer season of the Student Rowing League also took place. Athletes competed in two events at once.
Rowers of Povolzhsky University - Bogdan Kochergin, Mikhail Abramov, Rodion Morozov, Dmitry Drozdyuk, Karim Mubarakshin, Egor Perevozchikov, Pavel Pagin, Daniil Olenev and helmsman Dmitry Lesin - won the men's 8+ MB class final in both events. The team showed the best result of 06:17.55 minutes, beating the nearest rivals from St. Petersburg by 7.55 seconds.
‘The competition went smoothly, we were able to show the best rowing. On the first day of the competition we won the preliminary heats and secured a direct passage to the semi-finals. The next day in the semi-final heats we decided to bet on endurance and set a high pace from the start, not letting our rivals go ahead. In the evening in the finals we realised that we were in for a serious fight and we would have to work hard for the whole distance. Choosing the same tactics, by 1000 metres we were already winning the nearest rival by a hull and started to spin the finishing rows, which brought the gap to two hulls: this was our way to victory. We spent a lot of effort and time preparing for this competition, but thanks to coach Vladimir Gogolin we were able to show a high result,’ shared Mikhail Abramov, a member of the Volga Region University team.
