Nikita Shleikher, a graduate of the Master's programme at the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism, became the first gold medal winner at the International University Sports Festival. He won in diving from a metre springboard, scoring 392.50 points.

Second place went to Alexander Cherepakhin (390.05) from the P.F. Lesgaft National State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Health. Third was Cuban Castañeda Escalona (380.70), who studies at the Manuel Fajardo University of Physical Culture and Sports Sciences.

"I am happy with the medal, but I am only 60 per cent happy with my jumps," Nikita Shleicher admitted. - I am happy with the competition, I have the feeling of a big international start. I also congratulate Sasha Cherepakhin on his second place. He pulled himself together, even with an injury, and performed very well."

The competition, which started on 19 August, is being held in Yekaterinburg. About 3400 students from 240 universities of 36 countries took part in the Festival. Volga Region University is represented by 75 students.
