Dinar Karimullin, a graduate of the Volga Region University, won the "Best Athlete" nomination at the 15th Golden Belt Martial Arts Awards. The award ceremony was held at the State Kremlin Palace with the participation of Russian Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev.
The Russian Martial Arts Union holds the Golden Belt Award every year, honoring martial artists who have contributed to the development of sports.
Dinar Karimullin is an international master of sports in koresh and belt wrestling.
‘I came to koresh at the age of six because there were no other children's sections nearby. In Tatarstan's villages this type of wrestling is very developed - our fathers and grandfathers fought for the title of batyrs, and I am continuing their path. My first coach was Vener Askarov. Under his guidance I tasted victory for the first time and won several times at the championship of the Republic of Tatarstan.
Then I entered the Volga Region Academy, where I trained under Azat Akhatov for six years and took significant heights: the World Belt Wrestling Championships in 2018 and the World Koresh Wrestling Championships in 2019 and 2020. After the academy, I started coaching, but I also continue my sports career,’ says Dinar Karimullin.
The Volga Region University graduate was nominated for the award thanks to his brilliant victories in the season at the Russian and World Championships, as well as the BRICS Games. In addition, the ‘best athlete’ has victories at the 2022 and 2023 World Championships behind him, and this year Dinar Karimullin was recognised as the best athlete of the year in koresh wrestling in the Republic of Tatarstan and the best coach among boys and men.
