Students of the Volga Region University of Sport and Tourism won gold medals at the Comprehensive All-Russian Rugby Sevens Competition among men's student teams. The tournament ended the day before in Kislovodsk.
After three victories in the group stage matches on the first game day, the university rugby players won three more victories in the play-off matches.
In the quarter-finals the Volga Region University team defeated the team of Don State Technical University with the score 34:0. In the match for the final, the university rugby players were stronger than the team from the Siberian State University of Physical Culture and Sport - 26:5.
In the match for "gold" the team of the Volga Region University defeated the rivals from Dagestan State Pedagogical University - 19:12.
In the match for bronze medals rugby players of SibGUFK outplayed the team of Siberian Federal University - 19:7. The team of Don State Technical University closed the top five teams of the tournament.
