From this year, Student Transport Grant funds can be spent on travel by taxi, train and plane. The Minister of Youth Affairs of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rinat Sadykov, announced this at a press conference dedicated to Student’s Day.

“A transport grant is a significant form of targeted support for students in the republic. First of all, students in need receive benefits in the form of a transport grant. Also, students without academic debt, including foreign ones, who actively express themselves in scientific, social, sports and creative activities, can count on a transport grant. The transport grant should be aimed specifically at paying for transport costs, and therefore it was decided that the financial support within the framework of this project should be used in accordance with the purpose. Therefore, this year students will receive in a new way. At the same time, we heard young people who asked to include taxis, trains and even planes in the grant. Cashback applies not only to public transport, but also to taxis, trains and planes,” he said.

The mechanism for receiving financial support is as follows: student winners of the competition are issued a Resident Card of the Republic of Tatarstan. From March to December 2024, based on the results of each month, a cashback in the amount of 50% of the cost of trips made is credited to the student’s RT Resident Card.

The minister recalled that since 2019, grant funding has been doubled - from 30 to 60 million rubles. Thus, more than 5 thousand students receive such support every year.

Starting this year, the format for receiving funds will also change. Now the winning student will need to obtain a Resident Card of the Republic of Tatarstan, with which he will be able to pay for trips on city and intercity public transport.
