Students of the Volga Region University were able to test their knowledge in various scientific fields and determine the strongest team among the institutes.
The Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics held a scientific and educational tournament "Step into Science" for the students of the university. The event is dedicated to the Decade of Science and Technology and the Year of the Defender of the Fatherland, as well as the 80th anniversary of the Great Victory. Three teams of eight representatives of the Institute of Sports, the Institute of Physical Education, and the International Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism competed for the title of the strongest, testing their knowledge and ingenuity.
Vice-Rector for Research and International Activities of the Institute of Physical Education Andrey Nazarenko, Director of the Institute of Physical Education Iskander Galeev, Director of the International Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism Sergey Druzhkov and Head of the Department of Foreign Languages and Linguistics Zoya Pavitskaya came to support the students.
- I would like to thank the institutes and departments for the fact that every year the number of events dedicated to science increases at the university. Thanks to this, students can gain useful competences as future specialists of physical culture, sports, service and tourism. Also science reveals in them professional qualities and research potential, - said Andrey Nazarenko, delivering his valedictory speech.
The organisers prepared a quiz with 30 questions on philology, cultural studies, country studies, methodology, specialisation, as well as a block dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Victory - science during the Great Patriotic War. While answering one of the questions, students chorally sang the famous song ‘Katyusha’.
In addition, the quiz included questions that were invented in collaboration with university staff and teachers - they were presented in the format of small video clips. Rector of Volga Region University Rafis Burganov also asked the students a question.
- I believe that thanks to the ‘Step into Science’ tournament, we were able to inspire students to acquire new knowledge. The tournament was held at the university for the second time already - previously we held it in 2023, dedicated to the great Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay. I hope that the event will become our permanent tradition, because in our time it is especially important to gain knowledge in different professional and scientific spheres, as well as to develop multitasking,’ Zoya Pavitskaya emphasised.
During the intellectual battle, the students demonstrated their reading and logical thinking skills. The guys snatched difficult questions from each other, thanks to which the final gap in points was quite small. The third place was taken by the team of the Institute of Sport, the second place went to the representatives of the Institute of Physical Culture, and the leaders were the students of the International Institute of Hotel Management and Tourism.
- We have participated in similar events with our group before - in my opinion, they provide an interesting and useful experience. We are very happy that we were able to win today. Although it was a shame when we forgot that Paris is the city that is on the mown grass.
I think it is important to organise such events more often, because thanks to them students can be enriched with knowledge. And I will gladly take part in them if I have such an opportunity,’ Angela Avetisyan, a second-year student of Tourism, shared.
