The annual Open Student Regatta of Volga Region University of Sports and Tourism was held at the Rowing Centre. The competition format changed this year: for technical reasons there was no Dragon Boat race, which was usually a university-wide event.
Rowing students, champions and winners of All-Russian competitions, students of a specialised rowing school, as well as athletes from the Republic of Mari El, took part in the competition.
The rowers took part in the 2000m Classic Rowing Regatta, while kayakers and canoeists competed in the 200m and 500m races.
The first place in the men's Lightweight class went to Ilya Prokhorov and Georgy Balandin, silver to Daniil Olenev and Daniel Istomin, another bronze to Alexander Kupov and Dmitry Drozdjukov, both representing the Volga Region State University Sport Training Centre.
Third-year student Matvey Makhnev won the men's canoe single race, while sophomore Alexander Galliulin took third place on the podium in the same event.
