The BRICS Games continue in Kazan, with athletes demonstrating excellent results at the competitions. Among them are students and graduates of the Volga Region University of Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Sambo wrestlers showed brilliant results. Students of the Volga Region University of Sport - Kirill Bazhin (in the weight category up to 64kg) and Daniil Orlov (in the weight category up to 79kg) won gold medals at the sambo competition.
"The BRICS Games are held at the highest level! Athletes from 17 countries are participating in the sambo tournament, among them are world and European champions. I liked everything - from the competition as a whole to the way my bout went. I am happy that I managed to show my maximum and win a gold medal, as well as fulfil the standard of Master of Sport International Class," Daniil Orlov said.
Our graduates - badminton players - participants of the Olympic Games Sergey Sirant and Evgeniya Kosetskaya also performed well. In singles finals Sergey Sirant was stronger than Artur Pechenkin - 2:0 (21:14, 21:13), and Evgenia Kosetskaya defeated Maria Golubeva in a difficult struggle - 2:1 (15:21, 21:8, 21:13).
"I am happy that I won, I proved that I can still win. I'm glad that I managed my emotions and won. I was very nervous at the beginning. The volley was flying away a bit, I didn't realise it straight away and made mistakes. Masha played very powerful and strong. I advise her not to stop and to keep fighting. The organisation of the BRICS Games is very cool, cool hall, delicious food, everything is great, everyone is very friendly," said Evgeny Kosetskaya after winning the final.
